Art class- Fall 2011

Oct. 17

Our first project will be Sunset Silhouettes. This is a great project that can be adapted for a multitude of age ranges.  It explores color theory, watercolor painting techniques, and negative space. For the younger kids, it will work on tracing, cutting, and pasting skills.

Our kids will need …
-a set of watercolor paints. Just the simple pallet you can buy at Safeway works fine.
-paint brushes, just regular white paper (we don’t need to use good water color paper on this one)
-black construction paper. If you don’t have this let me know. I have extra I can bring.
-a pencil
-scissors
-glue stick

Oct 24th

Our second class we will be doing Owls!
This project will teach basic printmaking concepts and watercolor resist techniques. Our older kids will draw there own owls, our younger can use a template and explore line drawing techniques to fill in and decorate their owls body.

Our kids will need…
-legal size white computer paper
-crayons (oil pastels for the older kids if you wish. Your choice)
-Blue tempera paint, we don’t need much because we will be watering it down.
-paint brushes.

Line Drawings!

This is a 2-class project. So we will be doing part 1 this week and working on it again next week.

This project will teach line drawing techniques as well as exploring patterns.

Our kids will need…
- Legal Size white computer paper
- a black sharpie (if you don’t want your younger child using a sharpie, a black crayola marker is fine)
-a set of markers (your choice)
-black construction paper
-scissors
-glue stick

Nov. 14

We will be continuing our project from the previous week.

Nov. 21

Color theory fish!

This lesson will be focusing on color theory. We will learn about the color wheel and this project again adapts very well for all ages.

Our kids will need…
-12”x18” mixed media paper
-Sharpie (marker must be waterproof)
-red, yellow, and blue tempera paint.
-paint brushes

Nov. 28

Snowmen!

This is another two-lesson project. It could be completed in one, but it would be pushing it, and I think the kids will have a lot more fun taking their time on it. This is not your typical snowman art. Instead, we will be focusing on perspective and I will be teaching the painting technique- stippling.

Our kids will need…
-same 12”x18” mixed media paper.
-white tempera paint
-tempera paint in multiple colors
-paintbrushes
-black oil pastel

Dec. 5
Continuing last week’s snowman painting.

Dec. 12

For our last art class of 2011, we will be exploring the beautiful poinsettia plant.

Our kids will need…
-The 12”x18” mixed media paper again.
-Tempera paint in multiple colors.
-Paintbrushes
-q-tips
